The February Rey Azteca Student of the Month is Jack Robinson, who is a Junior at Penncrest High School and received a Certificate of Achievement and a $25 gift card from Rey Azteca, our Sponsor of this program.
Besides his family, friends, community and school, there are two things that Jack has a passion for – firefighting and welding. Jack has grown up in the fire service since his family are all members of the Newtown Square Fire Company. You could say it’s in his blood. Last year Jack took the first three modules of the Emergency Services Course for Firefighting at Folcroft Technical School, and then completed the last module this fall through the Fire Company with Delaware County Training Center. Once Jack turns 18 he will be able to be an interior firefighter. Any free time Jack has he likes to spend at the firehouse on duty.
This is Jack’s first year in the Welding program at Vo Tech and he enjoys learning all the things that are involved in welding, as well as the hands-on experience he’s getting in the trade. Jack hopes these skills will help him to pursue a secondary job in the industry at some point in the future.
However, Jack’s primary career choice for the future is definitely firefighting! He intends to pursue his passion for firefighting, continue taking classes and hope to one day become a career firefighter. Jack assists with so many things around the firehouse, including helping his dad who is the Chief Engineer, to maintain the apparatus. Jack loves attending drills at the firehouse with other firefighters and even takes part in activities when it is not drill night. According to Chris Young, Deputy Fire Chief of the Newtown Square Fire Company, “Jack is a hard worker and he is an asset to our Fire Company. He’s always eager to learn.”
Thank you so much Jack for your continued service and striving to make it your life’s work!
