Student of the Month: Kolby Poole

Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors, January 2024
Kolby with Rey Azteca Manager Enrique Chavez

The January Rey Azteca Student of the Month is Kolby Poole, who is in the 11th grade at Penncrest High School and received a Certificate of Achievement and a $25 gift card from Rey Azteca, our Sponsor of this program.

At Penncrest, Kolby is a member of both the Varsity Lacrosse and Football teams.  Last year, Kolby was named a captain of the Varsity Lacrosse team as a sophomore. He also participates in Varsity Football, and this fall the football team qualified for the playoffs for the first time in ten years.

Each year, Kolby volunteers at Laxapalooza – a yearly fundraiser held at Penncrest to support the NK Smiles Scholarship fund, named in memory of the late Norm Kelly, Jr., who was a beloved elementary school teacher and lacrosse coach at the Rose Tree Media School District, who passed away in August 2006 after a very courageous battle against cancer. Kolby also volunteers at the VFW for their Sunday Veteran’s Breakfast and helps out at community events for the Rose Tree Colts youth football league and the Optimist Lacrosse Club, as well as coaching at the Young Warriors Lacrosse camp.

Kolby is an altar server at St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall, and has volunteered at the “Greek Affair,” a premier Greek festival, in its 46th year, held by St. Lukes. He is a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Future Business Leaders Club last year as a sophomore.

Looking into the future, Kolby hopes to win a state title with the Penncrest Varsity Lacrosse team, and plans on attending a Division I College to play Lacrosse, while earning a degree in Business /Sports management. You are an inspiration to all of us and we can’t wait to see what you do next!

Know a terrific teen who should be our next Student of the Month?
