We are proud to recognize Liam Loughrey, a freshman at Penncrest High School, as the Rey Azteca Student of the Month. Liam consistently balances a rigorous academic workload with an extraordinary level of musical commitment, all while remaining grounded, disciplined and highly self-motivated. A remarkably gifted musician, he plays guitar, piano, drums, marimba and bass.
At Penncrest, Liam performs as a Jazz Ensemble guitarist and Concert Band percussionist, and for four consecutive seasons, he has served as a lead guitarist and mentor for younger musicians in the School of Rock Delco House Band. He has performed classical piano multiple times at Carnegie Hall and the Academy of Music. Liam also completed the Johns Hopkins Peabody Summer Intensive Guitar Program and has applied to Berklee’s Aspire Music Program this summer, where he will earn college credits.
As the only freshman currently dually enrolled in a college program at Penncrest, Liam is working toward an Associate’s Degree in Sound Recording and Music Technology at Montgomery County Community College and expects to graduate with his degree during his senior year of high school.
Giving back is important to Liam, who has performed and helped raise funds and awareness for Kids Rock Philly, Kelly Music & Arts – Delco Gives Telethon and the Media Arts Council’s Jasper Jam.
Liam plans to continue his studies in sound recording and music technology by pursuing a music degree at a college known for strong contemporary music programs, such as Berklee College of Music. Your passion for music and strong academic foundation truly set you apart, Liam!
