Rey Azteca, Bringing People Together Now With A Student of The Month

Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors, August 2023

Nearly everyone likes Mexican food, but they may not yet realize how much more they would like “real Mexican food.” That was me until I visited Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant shortly after it opened in January 2020.

Soon after Rey Azteca opened in Newtown Square, (really in Edgmont, on the road into the Regal movie theater), I was quick to share my happy discovery with friends. Early on I had to admit something was different about Rey Azteca’s recipes. Now I know. And now I have a taste for only real Mexican food.

The young married couple/owners of Rey Azteca, Jenny Placidos and Alan Lamarca bravely weathered the early months of the Covid-19 Pandemic, which mirrored the same early months of their investment in launching their Mexican restaurant. But with their signature Mexican food recipes and smiles, and gracious personalities as hosts, they came through to the other side as restaurant dining slowly returned. Yet, even while in the middle of those several pandemic years, Jenny and Alan still put back into the community. They cheerfully agreed to become a Sponsor of Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors magazine because they understood our Bringing People Together mission in our Newtown Edgmont community and have remained our partner in that mission since.

In September 2021 Jenny and Alan opened their second Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant, farther out West Chester Pike, in West Goshen. And knowing the influence of our local magazines, agreed to sponsor both Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors, and also East Bradford Neighbors magazine, develop new customers for that new Rey Azteca location.

Last year around this time, I sought counsel from Jenny Placidos and Alan Lamarca, as I was considering a plan to launch this Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors magazine. Jenny and Alan recognized how many residents of Edgmont and Willistown Townships (also with a Newtown Square zip code) could benefit, along with the new homeowners still coming into Ventry and on the Ellis Preserve. Last October the owners of Rey Azteca also agreed to become a Charter Sponsor of your hometown magazine.

Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant has agreed to be our Sponsor for our new monthly profile of a local. In gratitude for that sponsorship, our profiled student each month will be called “The Rey Azteca Student of The Month”. Beginning with this issue, Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors will profile a local middle school or high school student within a feature article. Our Student of The Month can be attending any school (or home-schooled), provided the student resides in a home that receives Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors in the mail each month.

To learn how students will be selected, see the opposite page which premiers our first Rey Azteca Student of The Month, Daniel Lain of Newtown Square.

Thank you Jenny and Alan, for Rey Azteca’s new sponsorship of our new monthly Student of The Month feature in Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors. You and our other Charter Sponsors launched this magazine last October Bringing People Together through our community magazine, in print and online at www.TheNEMag.com.
