Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt Strahm and his family for their friendship, their generosity and their commitment to our community and our Newtown Edgmont Challenger Angels team.
When you find something that brings you happiness, it’s natural to want to share it with others. That is exactly what Matt Strahm’s agent, Allan Donato, did when his friend and client, Matt Strahm, signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in December 2022. Allan, a Newtown Square resident, is one of the NELL Challenger League Angels’ volunteers. “I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to work with these players,” Allan explained. “I tell people all the time that being on the baseball field with the Angels is what gives me joy. I look forward to every practice and every game.”
People in Places The Strahm Family Thank You From the Bottom of Our Hearts by Sheila Turner-Hilliard Photos courtesy of Allan Donato Allan arranged a meeting with the Strahms and a few of the Angels players, and before they knew it, Matt, his wife, Megan and their daughter Wren began experiencing that same joy that Allan was describing. Megan recalled how much they enjoyed watching that first Angels game at Gable Park. “Seeing the team in action and watching how genuinely they supported each other put the biggest smiles on our faces,” she said. “Wren enjoyed herself, too, because as soon as we got there, her favorite player, Jimmy, walked over to her and gave her a baseball.”
It wasn’t long before Matt’s brother, Ben, and his girlfriend, Breanna, heard about the Angels. Like Matt, Ben is a pitcher who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2018 and played in the Minor Leagues for a few years. “Ben started going to the Angels’ games and joined in pitching to them,” Matt said. “He was actively involved on the field and quickly became a team favorite!”
Megan and Matt said spending time with the Angels is something they consider a privilege. “We were fortunate to live in this community,” Megan said. “These players and their families brought us more joy than we could have ever imagined.”
On behalf of our Newtown Edgmont Friends & Neighbors, we wish Matt, Megan, Wren and the entire Strahm family all the best as they make their way to their new home with the Kansas City Royals. We know you are leaving a piece of your hearts here in Newtown Square, and we will always cherish all the love you gave to us.
